FAQ’s regarding Graduation and Your Diploma:

How do I apply for my diploma? [top]

Go to http://degree.ucsd.edu.

How long does it take to get my diploma? When can I order official transcripts? [top]

The graduation process is L-O-N-G! Generally it takes 8-10 weeks after the end of the quarter for a degree to be conferred. This time period is significantly longer for students with "IP" or "I" grades and students who take courses at another institution during their graduating quarter. In addition, all Summer Degree and Diploma Applications will be processed after all of UCSD’s Summer Sessions have ended. This is per the UCSD Registrar and is regardless of where and when you are finishing your last summer course(es). Once a degree is conferred, you may order official transcripts on Tritonlink. Your diploma takes an additional 60-90 days to arrive at your permanent address. So it is not uncommon to have a diploma get to your door 4 or 5 months after you finished school!

To see if your degree has been conferred, keep logging into http://degree.ucsd.edu. When it says "Student Graduated" you know you're done!

When do I need to apply for my diploma (graduation)? [top]

If you are finishing all of your courses in:

Spring 2008: Apply NOW at http://degree.ucsd.edu. You may apply online until the end of Spring quarter.

Summer 2008: Apply NOW at http://degree.ucsd.edu. You may apply online until the end of Summer Session II.

If you do not see your quarter of graduation listed, please call Muir Advising at 858-534-3580.

I accidentally applied for the wrong quarter, and the online DDA won’t allow me to reapply for another quarter. What do I need to do? [top]

You must come to the Muir Academic Advising office and fill out a retraction form. Muir College staff must apply for the correct quarter on your behalf. Please contact the office via mugrad@ucsd.edu or 858-534-3580.

I still have to petition my minor. When should I do that? [top]

You should petition your minor as soon as possible, preferably BEFORE you apply for graduation online. Please note that your minor department, as well as Muir College must approve your minor petition.

My personal information is not up to date on the online DDA. What should I do? [top]

Please be sure you update your personal information on TritonLink, make sure your current and permanent address, email, and phone number are accurate. If we find any deficiencies while processing your graduation, we will send you an email through your UCSD email account. Your permanent address is where your diploma will be mailed, so it is important that this information is accurate as well.

If your current quarter classes have changed, please send an email to mugrad@ucsd.edu or stop by Muir Academic Advising Office to fill out a "DDA Change of Schedule".

I want to walk in Spring's Commencement (Graduation) Ceremony! What do I need to do? [top]

At this time, you do not need to apply to walk. All you need to do is rent a cap and gown at the UCSD Bookstore in June.

A college ticket will be distributed to students at the time of their cap and gown rental at the bookstore in June.  Student ID will be required for verification of college enrollment.  Students should place this ticket in a safe location as it will be required for admittance to their college commencement ceremony on the day of graduation.  No replacement tickets will be issued.

Students who are graduating (finishing all of their requirements) during the Fall 2007, Winter 2008, Spring 2008 or Summer 2008 should apply for their diploma online at http://degree.ucsd.edu. They will have the option to include or omit their name from the Spring Commencement Program (booklet). For students who wish to participate in the ceremony but are not finishing by Summer 2008, your name will be read when you walk across the stage but not appear in the commencement program

When is the commencement ceremony? [top]

Saturday, June 21st, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. on RIMAC field. Participating students should arrive at 7:00 a.m. Please see the Muir College Commencement website for more details.

Do I need tickets for family members? [top]

No. There will be open seating and it is on a first come, first served basis.

Is there an all campus commencement ceremony? [top]

No, there are only ceremonies for each of the six colleges.

I can’t make Muir’s commencement ceremony, but I still want to participate in commencement. Can I walk with another college? [top]

Please refer to the Tritonlink site about exceptions.

I want to make sure I am graduating. What can I do to find out where I stand? [top]

You have a couple of different options:

  1. You may meet with an academic advisor to go over your degree audit. Degree audits cannot be done during walk-in hours, so please contact our office (858) 534-3580 to schedule an appointment.
  2. You can access your degree audit online via Tritonlink. Simply click on Academic History, and then on the ‘View Degree Audit’ on the right side of the page.
  • Be sure to note the date at the top of the degree audit which indicated when it was generated (as it may not be up to date).
  • Also, be aware that petitions and exceptions may not be reflected, as Muir and Departmental Advisors must manually enter such information into the system.
  • If you have questions about your departmental requirements, contact the department. If you have questions about college requirements, please contact us.

I still have questions and/or concerns. What do I do? [top]
