How do I sign up for an orientation session?

I’m having trouble with the orientation web site! What do I do?
Call 858-534-3580 or email jmctransfer@ucsd.edu to and let us know the exact nature of your problem, your operating system, and what browser you are using and we can try to help you solve your problems with the web site.

What is going to be covered at orientation?
Orientation includes group advising sessions on your degree requirements and planning your major courses. In addition, we provide opportunities to learn about campus resources like financial aid, parking, off-campus housing, and student business services. Finally, we will have a brief tour of the campus core and give you opportunities to meet other students to be potential room-mates.

What if I can’t make it to orientation?
Call 858-534-3580 or email jmctransfer@ucsd.edu to let us know who you are, why you can’t come. We’ll make sure you can go through the rest of the new transfer student site and get prepared for online advising and course enrollment.

Can I make an appointment with an academic advisor?
Since your transcripts will not be posted until August, we can’t actually confirm any academic information with you. Start with the new student web site at http://newstudent.ucsd.edu to plan your classes. This will walk you through the process, and give you opportunities to contact an advisor after your transcripts are available in August. If you still have questions, call 858-534-3580 or email jmctransfer@ucsd.edu with your questions.

What classes do I take?
The new student portal will have a tutorial on choosing your classes for fall, and you will have a chance to follow up with an advisor with specific questions in August. In general, though, most first-quarter transfer students will take 3 four-unit courses in their first quarter:
  • One Muir Writing course or a US Cultural Diversity course.
  • One lower- or upper-division course for your major.
  • One additional major requirement or an upper-division elective.

When do I register for my classes?
You will enroll in your Fall 2008 courses during or after your priority appointment time on August 21 or 22. Your appointment time will not be visible on TritonLink until August 4.
You will need to participate in a one-day on-campus orientation on July 9, 10 or 11 and complete all the steps on the newstudent.ucsd.edu web site before you can enroll in courses.

When does the quarter begin?
Instruction begins on Thursday, September 28, 2008. Welcome Week Activities (a great way to become familiar with the campus and make new friends) are scheduled for September 23 through 27.
